The Coney Island Polar Bear Club, America's oldest winter bathing organization, invites the public to its annual New Year's Day plunge into the Atlantic. Hundreds run into the frigid surf off the boardwalk at Stillwell Avenue. Free to plunge; donations to local Coney Island nonprofits encouraged. Register in advance online or on site; check-in opens at 10 am and closes at 1 pm.
